What Is Psoriasis? |

Psoriasis is a genetic skin condition that affects about 3.8% of the population and often lies dormant until triggered by a variety of lifestyle and dietary factors. Psoriasis can manifest itself in a number of different forms. While it is most often associated as appearing on the skin it can also affect the scalp and fingernails.
The cause of psoriasis is unknown, although it is well accepted that there is an underlying genetic component which, when triggered, causes the immune system to produce an excessive number of skin cells. As such it has been termed an auto-immune skin disorder.
Psoriasis treatment traditionally focuses on treating the symptoms of the disorder and as a result this skin disease rarely goes into remission and often reappears soon after treatment has concluded.
